Well done to Taff for finishing 3rd in the UK Master fitter final in Cardiff. That’s the 3rd best technician in the whole of the UK then, I don’t think that’s too shabby!

Local Windscreen Technician Places 3rd in UK Master Fitter Final 2010
Bournemouth windscreen technician John Ferry of Autoglaze Ltd, has had the pleasure of competing in and finishing 3rd in the inaugural revamp of the UK Master Fitter Final 2010. Held in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, the competition aimed to recognize the high level of industry specific talent that can be found in local independent windscreen companies across the country.
Speaking at the black tie gala dinner, John remarked “To be credited as being in the top 3 technicians in the UK has been amazing. I can’t quite believe it!”.
The event was also attended by Julian Aldridge, Managing Director, and Jayne Aldridge, Finance and Health & Safety Director of Autoglaze Ltd. Both were extremely proud of John’s achievements, “John showed real enthusiasm for the competition and competed of his own accord. He showed that technicians for independent companies can be the best in the industry” remarked Julian.
Established in 1987 Autoglaze Ltd has grown to be the largest independent windscreen company in the South of England. The management team, of which John is a part, has put a great deal of effort bringing the company to the forefront of the industry, and recently became the first of its type in the UK to be certified to the ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004 and BS 18001:2007 standards. Speaking from the event Jayne Aldridge said “Having put in the hard work over the last few years it is great to have another form of evidence to show that we are among the best in the industry”.
Organised by Proskills the Sector Skills Council, the competition was held on 16th September, and was supported by organisations such as the Independent Windscreen Academy (IWA) and the European Social Fund through the Welsh Assembly. After an absence of several years the competition has now been revamped, and following an extremely successful UK final, preparations are already ongoing for next year’s rounds.
The competition consisted of regional heats held at venues across the UK, from which the top six technicians were invited to the final. The winner will be competing in the International Final to be held in Dusseldorf in October. After the presentations John said of the overall winner Matthew Cassels, “He did really well, I hope after a long absence from the International Finals our representative can show we are among the most highly skilled in the world”.
